Pastor H. Overduin

A Message from the Pastor

As pastor of this congregation since January of 1996, I have been asked to write a short note of introduction. Prior to moving to the Fraser Valley, I served the Free Reformed Church of Chatham, Ontario from 1986-1995, having graduated from Calvin Theological Seminary in 1986. Thanks be to God Triune for guiding me in the Christian faith and for calling me into the gospel ministry and upholding me in His service for all these years.

I have a deep love for God's Word and view the Holy Bible as the inspired, inerrant, absolutely authoritative Word from God in line with II Timothy 3:16&17. It is a Book above all other writings and distinct from all other writings. Because of hearty submission to all of Scripture, I have a deep love and appreciation too for the faithful summary explanation of Scripture as also expressed in the Reformed creeds. The five crucial "solas" of the Reformation -Scripture alone, Christ alone, grace alone, faith alone, and to the glory of God alone- are essential because together they point us to the Cross of Christ and His one sacrifice, the literal 'Crucial Sola'. You will find these themes reflected in the worship services and ministry of our church which has an average attendance of 300 people, ranging in all ages from little children to the elderly. We welcome you to come and visit us.

My desire in the gospel ministry is to preach Jesus Christ and Him crucified and risen again as the only Savior for guilty sinners, and for sinful saints. It is my prayer that God will make His Word, by His Holy Spirit, also through me, to be a means of grace, saving the lost, sanctifying His own, and equipping His church in the gospel service and mission in our confused and perishing world.

I was born in 1954 in Holland and my family moved to Canada later in that same year. My wife, Nelly, and I have been married for over 27 years and have six children, four of whom are married. We have also been blessed with three grandchildren in the past year.

"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and His greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise Your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts. I will meditate on the glorious splendor of Your majesty, and on Your wonderful works. My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD... (NKJV)" Psalm 145:3-5&21a
